5 Great WordPress Plugins for Sport

As we covered in an earlier post, WordPress is a fantastic platform for running your website, in part due to its great library of plugins which can expand the functionality of your site.

no_1SportsPress

SportsPress allows you to run leagues, run a team website, and much more.

It is extremely flexible, meaning you can use for all sports and teams.

SportsPress is the “ultimate all-in-one plugin for transforming your WordPress blog into a fully automated, configurable team website… offers a series of premium SportsPress themes and extensions to give you even more sports functionality for your website”.

SportsPress is our number 1 WordPress plugin for sport!

no_2League Engine (Paid – $20)

League Engine is another great plugin for running leagues and tournaments, but has more premium features such as fixture list generation.

Soccer Info

If you are running a sports blog/website and you want to display football tables, results and upcoming fixtures this is the plugin to do the job.

Simply stick into your sidebar and choose what you want to display.

no_4Game Schedules

This plugin is ideal for listing fixtures and results and includes a widget to countdown to an upcoming game.

no_5RSS

The final plugin in our list comes built-in with all WordPress installs. RSS stands for Really Simple Sindication and allows you to display the latest posts from any RSS feed on your own website.

For example, you can easily display the latest sports news from the BBC Sport website by adding the URL of a particular RSS feed to the widget section of your website (click HERE to go to the BBC Sport RSS Feeds page – you can then choose which feed you want to put on your website. Ensure you put attribute BBC Sport by putting something like “Latest News from BBC Sport”).

A RSS feed is a great way of having fresh content added to your website without you having to do any work!
